Reliance Retail Buys Iconic US Brand Kelvinator To Boost Consumer Durables Push

Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd., a unit of Reliance Industries Ltd., has acquired American home appliances maker Kelvinator to strengthen its presence in the consumer durables segment, the company said Friday. The acquisition cost was not disclosed.

Kelvinator, which became a household name in India during the 1970s for its affordable refrigerators, will now be part of Reliance Retail’s portfolio.

Executive Director Isha Ambani said the deal will help bring trusted global innovations to Indian consumers and aligns with the company’s goal of "democratising aspirational living".

The integration of Kelvinator with Reliance’s vast retail network is expected to accelerate growth in India’s premium home appliances market.
