close to sunset
a Sarus couple
glides in
punctuation marks
on a grey sky
in ankle deep water
these tall birds are now
exclamation marks
we take no questions
in unison
they trumpet
elegant necks craned up
high towards the sky
bereft of answers
the sky hangs on
betwixt the two constants
the smouldering sun
and the tepid moon
wayward lovers
that clouds are
they float on by
drenched in nothing
but my own sweat
I wonder if
I am just an observer
or at best
a prop
life goes on by
Old wings
I dream of a lone Sarus
etched against the blue skies
stretching out
a hyphen
inadvertently momentarily
linking two disjointed clouds
the Sarus does not know
it flies on
against the wind
towards the horizon unseen
and what of the clouds?
the clouds have no choice
like woollen sheep
they must tug along with the wind
the dream
the Sarus
transfixed in my mind
I dispel the clouds
as I feel the urge
to be lean again
to be able to limber up
against the winds
I must test anew
my old wings.
