Tata Steel Ltd. on Thursday said Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the phase-II expansion of its Kalinganagar steel plant, taking its crude steel capacity to 8 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) from 3 mtpa. The expansion, completed with an investment of ₹270 billion, significantly boosts the company's presence in eastern India, the company said in an exchange filing.
The upgraded facility now houses the country’s largest blast furnace with a volume of 5,870 cubic metres. Other major additions under the expansion include a pellet plant, a coke plant, and a cold rolling mill – all equipped with advanced technologies and sustainable practices, Tata Steel added.
The company said the Kalinganagar site is now a key driver in its long-term growth and decarbonisation roadmap.
